What's a good product to use for African American hair that splits?

My overall hair is good, I wash it twice a weeks and take good care of it. The only thing is it splits like crazy and I've been trying to really grow it out, but I keep having to cut it because of my ends. So does anyone know a really good hair product thats good for African American hair and split ends? Also any good products that would help your hair grow a little faster. Thanks!

To prevent split ends, keep your hair up at all times. There are MANY cute ways to do this:

*bun (my fave)- low, messy, or neat near top of head

*hair zing (hairzings.com)

*put it in a ponytail. Twist pony tail upward and use a claw to hold.

Joico K Pak is made a real hair protein (unlike others who use sythentic/vegetable proteins) so I recommend using that to strengthen hair. Unless I am mistaken, they have a split end mender. But be aware that Joico is very expensive.

your hair could also be getting so dry that it is splitting. Get a good moisturizer. Care Free Curl Gold or S-curl (both are "texturizers" but do nothing to relaxed hair) are good ones that can be found at walmart. Do not get Pink lotion or grease.

To make hair grow (i copy and paste this answer all the time, sorry in advance if anything is repeated. It's also pretty long):

Anyway, for length, which a lot of relaxed women have trouble with:

First of all, keep your hair moisturized. This is as simple as wetting it in the shower, or wetting your hands and running them through your hair. DO NOT buy any moisturizer that has MINERAL OIL or PETROLATUM! care free curl gold and s-curl are popular moisturizers. Do NOT use that Pink lotion!

2)use a wide tooth comb(once a day or less)to avoid hairs breaking.

3)Wash your hair at least once a week with shampoo. I wash mine with JUST conditioner sometimes too.

4)after shampooing, DEEP CONDITION by putting condish on your hair and putting a plastic cap over it and leaving it on for 15-30 minutes

5)massage your scalp daily

6)do not put any oils or "grease" on your scalp. Same goes with hair.

7)Try to relax your hair less. Every 8-10 weeks or longer!

8)You know your hair is breaking because if you look on the ends you will not see a white bulb. If you DO see a withe thing on the end, that is just shed hair. You shed 100 hairs a day, so it's all good. If it IS broken hair, do a protein treatment (use Organic Roots Stimulator mayonaisse or Aphogee 2 minute)

9)Try to put your hair up. Or protect your hair by leaving it in braids. DO NOT LEAVE BRAIDS IN TOO LONG or you will loose your hairline!

10)Do not limit your hair care products to the "ethnic" section of walmart. A lot of that stuff is crap *cough* Motions *cough*

There is no 'cure' for split ends. The only way to help this condition is to treat your hair well, don't be rough with it, especially when wet, condition it regularly and trim the ends regularly. Don't believe the hype of hair products that say they 'fix' split ends - they don't. Do use quality conditioners specifically for african american hair as they are better formulated for your type of hair.
