A gel that doesn't dry out my hair? (African American Super Curly Afro hair).?

Due to excessive hair damage from chemical perms, I finally shaved my hair down to about 1/4 inch. Now my afro is starting to get long. My hair is so tightly curled that it's difficult to comb. Can you recommend a gel that will relax the curls a bit without drying my hair out too much so I can style it? Please do not recommend perming or hot combing since both those methods had disastrous results for me. Thank you so much for your help!

Trying to comb natural hair when it's dry is a disaster. Comb your hair either when its wet or at least damp. You'll find its easier and you'll have less breakage.

Try products like Miss Jessie's, Blended Beauty Happy Nappy Styles, or Kinky-Curl Curling Custard. They are all made for kinky curly hair and they define/soften ringlets.

Pomades are good. Your hair will not get hard like gel. If you like gel, use something with no to little alcohol. That's what causes dry hair and white flakes you get when you comb.

listen, i have the same problems as you, my hair is so curly you couldn't believe it. Personolly, I don;t want to use any hair gel. after a while your hair will start to get straiter and straiter. Been there done that.

I'm sorry, I don't have a specific brand for you in mind, but there are several alcohol-free gels out there in the market. I can suggest checking your local drugstore. Just look for a gel that says alcohol-free. Hope this helps!

there is this brand called culture (i've only seen it in Eckerd's) that has a 7 day "relaxer" it doesn't have the chemicals and you can still wear your hair curly with it it just makes my hair easier to comb

Try The Jane Carter Solution, Condition and Sculpt. Also look at sites like motown girl and curlmart. Comb your hair wet w/ conditioner. Do not comb dry. Good Luck!
