What's the Best Detangler for African-American Hair?

I currently use Optimum's conditioner which also works as a detangler and have used Paul Mitchell's conditioner/detangler. I don't want to keep using them all the time, I'd like to switch it up a bit. What are some detanglers or conditioner/detanglers that work really well and will not break off my hair?

I used to use Motions Leave in Conditioner which doubled as a detangler. But as of now, I use Pantene Relaxed and Naturral products and the conditioner works as a detangler also. I like their products, it helps my relaxer last longer.

It's good to change the shampoo and conditioner every 3 months or so. Try to stay away from chemicals if at all possible. They tend to dry the scalp over time.

Herbal shampoos and conditioners are great for all types of hair; like Herbal Essence.

Before washing, like the night before, try soaking your hair and scalp with Extra Virgin Olive oil overnight or for at least 8 hours. It will make your hair shiny and soft.

My favorite way to begin the detangling process is to use a generous amount of Northwest Scents hair conditioner (made with coconut oil and lots of moisturizers) on my hair when I am washing it, and to comb it out in individual sections, beginning at the ends, and working my way down to the roots. For information about Northwest Scents hair conditioner visit www.nwscents.com. It is formulated for black hair and is very gentle and moisturizing.

What are some tips that will make hair grow? (African American hair)?

Limit your use of heated hair appliances, they tend to dry out the hair and make it dull, damage and then eventually break off. Use a wide tooth comb and use a naturall bristle brush, do not over comb or brush your hair this causes the hair to stretch and then snap off. Do not use rubber bands in your hair. always wrap up your hair every night and use a silk scarf to sleep with. silk does not dry out the hair like other materials. Shampoo and condition your hair every 10-14 days. Always use a hair dressing that contains natura herbs, vitamins and minerals. Message your scalp with the balls of your fingers with the hair dressing, this will stimulate the hair follicles which helps the blood to circulate which promotes hair growth. Stay away from products that contains beeswax, alcohol. mineral oil, petroleum jelly.

What are some tips that will make hair grow? (African American hair)?

I work at a beauty supply store and we carry all kinds of products that help keep the hair from breaking off. All of them work the pretty well. However, there aren't any products in this store that literally makes your hair grow. Hair grows from the instead of your body and nothing that you put on your head is gonna make it grow faster. Its just the nature of the beast.

Solution: Prenatal vitamins or any old multi-vitamin. Prenatal vitamins just have a little extra of everything in them.

You should consider braids over a perm, because its much healthier.

Recommendations for hairsylist in Reno for African-American hair?

I have been living here for 3 years %26amp; have gotten tired of going all the way to Cali to my old hairstylist to get my hair done. Does anyone know of a salon that does extensions as well as traditional relaxers? Thanks!

Need to do something with my hair. Any ideas. African-American hair?

At this moment I don't have access to a hot comb or straightening iron, just a brush and some leave in conditioner. I must leave the house but not like this any quick ideas.

Need to do something with my hair. Any ideas. African-American hair?

African American women are beautiful. I think Shari Belefonte has the best hair style. It's easy, healthy, and shows off her beauty! Good luck!

apply the conditioner and brush through hair throughly (mostly in front), pull into pony tail, then grab a scarf wrap it around your head then when you're ready to go take it off and it'll be in a nice neat bun b/c of the pressure from the scarf on the hair combined with the conditioner (gel is better).

Get it relaxed.

Braid it??!

Need to do something with my hair. Any ideas. African-American hair?

dampen it ,put braids in ,you could use some conditioner, leave in the braids for a little while then take em out.It bshould give it a cute little wavy curl look.I do that sometimes when i'm in a hurry. How the hell did you end up somewhere with no iron? You better straighten it wit the iron and start wrappin it at night .thats nwhat i do.You don't have to perm it if you take care of it.Don't let that happen again, we black women have to be prepared especially when it comes to our hair.Step your game up girl!!!!! I'm just playin, good luck

How do I get long, healthy african american hair that's relaxed?

Your hair is going to grow at it's normal speed, nothing will actually make your hair grow faster, but you can make conditions that promote healthy hair.

1. Wash every one to two weeks depending on your hair state

2. Wait at least 6 weeks before getting a relaxer, if you can go longer, go longer [use relaxer kits, they tend to be softer on hair and come with the right shampoos and conditions you need for that time. Use Organic Root Stimulator, and Soft and Beautiful Botanicals. Make sure that a professional does this job though]

3. Use organic root stimulator products. [Carrot and Olive Oil work well, but find one suited to your needs]

4. Trim regularly [ESP. if your ends start to fray out. Trimming makes hair look thicker]

5. Take vitamins and minerals that promote healthy hair

6. Avoid flat ironing frequently, and air dry if possible [Use rollers instead]

7. Cover hair at night time with a bonnet

8. Use a deep conditioner every 4 weeks, and a leave in conditioner and setting lotion every week

9. If you get color, get semi-permanent. Don't take color chances with your hair

10. Drink lots of water

11. If you wear ponytails, take it out when you get home and let your hair breathe. Constant tightness is hard on the hair. [always use fabric covered hair bows]

12. Use a headband to tame and cover naps between perm time. [Avoid using gels, they create product build up. If necessary, use Let's Jam!]

good luck!

How can I spike my short african american hair?

I have been told if you mold it , sit under the dryer to dry , then add gel while running your finger through it will work. I want a cute funky messy spike do like Nia Long, or Melinda Williams. someone told me to also try ceramic flat iron. Can someone please tell me a step by step process? , I am really bad at the hair thing. Thanks

How can I spike my short african american hair?

Wash iit, blow dry it, take some jel and mold it into spikes, then take some sprites and flat iron it. Or you can go to a hair dresser that can show you

How can I spike my short african american hair?

you need v05 extreme hold hair gel!!! It's tough stuff and you don't need a dryer to hold it, its like cement but washes out well!!!

How can I spike my short african american hair?

Get a short hair cut, leave the top a little longer than the sides and the back. The longer pieces use point cutting technique to make it peicey. You wont even have to use any gel or any product, just run your fingers through it and go. Thats how my hair is cut and for more of a funky effect get a wild color.

How can I spike my short african american hair?

straighten it with a hot comb, then use "let's jam(extra strength)" to spike it, then sit under the dryer for 20 mins, thatll do it!
