I would like to know if using hot rollers works well with african american hair?

I'm trying to find a easier way to curl my hair, instead of doing it individually with a curling iron. I heard using hot rollers could do the trick, but I was wondering is it good on african american hair and if it is what kind of products should i use to make the curls stay longer?

Yes. I did it when my hair was longer. Best to speak with a stylist. The wrong size hot rollers will make you look like Orphan Annie. Or you can get what is called a 'wet set', when your hair is put on rollers while wet, and then you are put under a dryer. This is actually best for our hair to keep it healthy, and it holds the curl longer. I used to have mine set with wrapping lotion or a mousse.

I'm not really sure about african - american's hair but if a curling iron worked , hot rollers should too.

my daughter is a big fan of hot rollers. For African American hair it works just as well as curling irons but just like all heating appliances you should give your hair a break from them. My daughter hot rolls her hair then she uses oil sheen spray after Pink moisturizing oil sheen works best if you want body and a light sheen.

I have tried hot rollers and they definitely culed my whole head within minutes, however, they did dry my hair out and although the curls were tight, they didnt last very long.I later found out it was because I didn't put any setting lotion or heat protectant on it. If you have a setting lotion that contains NO alcohol, and creates a nice soft shiny long lasting curl, you will be in curl heaven once you use the hot rollers. I suggest Keracare setting lotion or AtOne with Nature setting lotion, which made my straw set super soft!

Good luck curling!

I stay away from heated appliances. I use snap on magnetic rollers nightly, but I have a relaxer on my hair so I wet set my hair with the use of Lotta Body Setting Lotion. I keep curls.

Yeah..I have to agree with some of these folks...heat is never good for your hair...the actually best thing to do...is to use rollers....but not the velcro ones....they take longer to dry.....

Try Jet Set rollers....or regular rollers...with hair clips...like the ones at Sally's...and I've seen a ton of girls..with great body when they use a Caruso set....check out that forum post....has a ton of info...ohhhh..and no Lottabody..or alcohol base setting lotion please.....it will destroy your hair....Aveda Brilliance....can do the trick...
