I need to find a GREAT hair stylist that knows how to handle african american hair in New York City?

I am an African American female in desperate need of help. My hair is severly damage due to over processing and frying, mostly because I have went to salon's that didn't know what the hell they were doing, and just wanted my money. Most places give you the worst person, because you are new and the bad stylist needs to make money. I need a good salon from the shampoo person, to the cutter. Please help.

** Also, if you have any experiences at salons please share. Thank YOU

Hi. I think that is your problem. Too much hair salons! You have to remember that everyone have different preferences, and if one dont work for you, then theres another, and another, and another...your hair wont survive all those different hands. If you go to a good salon, they will most likely tell you to get the severely damaged hair cut off or to grow it out naturally. You can do this through braid and twist extensions if you dont want to do "the big chop". There are a few I know:

Nubian Kinks salon - www.nubiankinks.com

Tendrils Hair salon - www.tendrilshairspa.com

khamit kinks hair salon - www.khamitkinks.com

They are all in brooklyn, not manhattan (I dont know any). However, they will charge you a pretty penny since they treat your hair well. What I suggest is that you dont go to salons altogether, especially with your experiences. I have done my own hair for 6 years now and dont have to worry about anyone messing it up or cutting 5 inches when I asked for a trim. My experiences havent been good, at least when relaxed. Now, being natural, I learned to do my own hair and care for it well, even though it was hard in the beginning.

Go on growafrohairlong.com and motowngirl.com. You will find info on how to comb your hair, take a look at the crown and glory method on growafrohairlong.com. It really works. Motowngirl will give great tips on maintaining your hair. There will be lots of info, trust me. But I have done this and it has worked for everyone that I have told who listened.

FYI: You really should think about going natural and stop putting heated appliances. I have eliminated them and have kept the thickness of my hair. You might think about investing in some natural products for your hair. The salons I listed charge about $300+, which I think you should use to buy good products to get your hair back to health. Take a look. I will give you a quick regimen to follow: drink lots of water, take a multivitamin and a hair vitamin like GNC healthy hair skin and nails with biotin in it, eat more fruits and veggies, and do a little bit of exercise if you can. This will help your hair grow with the proper nutrients. The products will keep your hair healthy on the outside. Hope this helps, and stay away from mineral oil, petroleum, sulfate, PEG, and ammonium products that the ethnic black hair products have. They dont work. God bless.

You were given great information by one of the earlier post. I only want to suggest that you check out this site. Blackhairmedia.com or Longhaircare.com

If you hair is severly damaged you may want to do the bc (big chop) and go natural. You need to learn about protective styles and so much more so check out BHM it has tons of information on growing healthy and long hair. The ladies are very helpful, but do search it first.

MTG%26gt;mane, tail and groom ...order on line.

You need to learn what oils to use and how to lock it with a moisturizer. You can also learn how to baggy that is using a plastic cap and it will help you to have less split ends. And if you are going to relax your hair, know that you can stretch it pass 6 to 8 weeks the ladies on BHM go at least 12 or more weeks before getting a relaxer. They are into growing hair to bra length, arm pit, waist length. If you are still insist in getting your hair relaxed you can ask about a good stylist in NYC. If you decide to do a bc you can wear braids, join the challegne on board.
